Islanders capture tourney

Novice team wins six straight at Richmond event

Delta Islanders Novice A1 lacrosse team continued its outstanding season by capturing the recent Richmond Lacrosse Salmon Festival tournament thanks to six straight victories.

The Islanders rose to the challenge of competition from Richmond, North Delta, Coquitlam and Juan de Fuca.

The team was proud to welcome Max Yingling to the bench who has

been out with a concussion since the previous weekend where he sustained a hard hit against Coquitlam in New Westminster's Bellie Bowl tournament. He was happy to be able to share in the success of the team and support them along the way.

The Islanders' success this season includes sitting in first place in league play and now back-to-back tournament wins.

The team includes: Matthew Burt, Reese Ferreira, Colby Hodson, Russell Howlett, Keegan Kozack, Van Lupien, Ben McDonald, Bennett McKay, Mathew Morison, Rhys Porteous, Silas Richmond, Quinn Ridley, Lincoln Taylor, Luke Thodos, Vaughn Thomas, Hayden Tuba, Noah Wickett and Max Yingling.

"I am extremely proud of this group. They worked hard in this tournament and it is paying off," said coach Andy Walters.

"As players, these boys each have a tremendous amount of talent and when you put them together it doesn't seem like anything can stop them."

Rounding out the coaching staff are Doug Morison and Ryan Walters.
