Take care of business this weekend and the Delta Islanders will be in excellent position to take a serious run at a top two finish in the B.C.

Junior "A" Lacrosse League.

The Islanders (9-5) travel to Port Coquitlam (6-7) tonight then return home Saturday to host the last place (1-12) Burnaby Lakers at 7: 30 p.m. in Ladner. A pair of victories would set the locals up for their biggest week of the season with just five games remaining.

Delta visits the New Westminster Salmonbellies (8-4) on Tuesday night, then take on the Victoria Shamrocks (8-4) next Saturday in Ladner. Those games will go a long way towards breaking up their current logjam in the league standings behind the defending champion Coquitlam Adanacs (9-3). The Langley Thunder (7-4) are also very much in the mix - a team Delta will play again on the road July 4.

The Islanders helped their cause in a big way last week with a pair of impressive wins. They came through with their biggest road win of the season in Langley (8-6), then returned home to topple the Shamrocks (14-8).

Intermediate call-up goalie Ryland Hood was terrific against the Thunder, turning aside 43 shots. The tight affair saw Delta finally take control on third period goals by Cody Nass and Tyler Nett just 26 seconds apart with less than five minutes to play.

Eli McLaughlin led the winners with four points, including a pair of goals. Jon Phillips added a goal and three helpers.

Delta jumped the Shamrocks for six goals in the opening period and never looked back in the convincing win.
