Junior '03 Giants capture Mainland tourney

The 2003 Vancouver Junior Giants took top honours in the "A" division at the recent the Mainland Hockey tournament. The boys came out victorious after a hard fought game with Chilliwack in the final round.

The 2003 Vancouver Junior Giants took top honours in the "A" division at the recent the Mainland Hockey tournament.

The boys came out victorious after a hard fought game with Chilliwack in the final round. Throughout the tournament they faced off against some tough opposition from Seafair, Northern B.C. and Chilliwack but kept up a consistent level of play that ultimately earned them the championship trophy for their division.

The Giants lost to Seafair and Chilliwack in round robin play, but went on to revenge those results with a 5-4 semi-final victory against Seafair and a thrilling 3-2 overtime win over Chilliwack in the final.

"We are really proud of the hard work of these boys. They have been challenged by some very talented teams but they proved that all their hard work is paying off ', says head coach Richard Allan. "They are really coming together as a team. They are achieving a more consistent level of play and we are very proud of what we have achieved to this point."

The Giants roster includes: Noah Wickett, Beckett Lee, Matthew Peterson, Aaron Thomson, Jackson Marriott, Evan Neaves, Kyle Redmond, Sam Sarkissian, Peter Lauinger, Kyle Wegner, Josh Scoville, Boston Warkentin, Quinn Ridley, Ben Bach, Scott Allan, Jacob Holt and Zack Nakagawa

Rounding out the coaching staff are Jason Marriott and Gord Sarkissian.
