Kids take to courses

Youngsters can get a taste of world class cycling by taking part in Kids Crits (short for criterium) this Friday and Saturday.

Youngsters can get a taste of world class cycling by taking part in Kids Crits (short for criterium) this Friday and Saturday.

Once the courses are closed to traffic, but prior to the evening's races, children will be given an opportunity to take a spin in the non-competitive events.

Children will be divided into two groups: six-to eight-year-olds and nine-to 11-year-olds.

In North Delta, the younger riders will start at 5: 45 p.m. and cover a halfkilometre course; the older group gets going at 6 p.m. and will make a lap of the 1.2-kilometre loop.

In Ladner on Saturday afternoon, the young cyclists will make a .9-kilometre loop on the course used for that evening's Brenco Criterium. The younger riders will start at 4: 30 p.m.; the older group at 4: 45 p.m.

Helmets are mandatory and bikes must be in safe working condition.

All participants will be presented with a medal.

. The MK Delta Criterium in North Delta on Friday evening will also feature family activities, including entertainment, arts and crafts, mountain bike stunt show, face painting and more.
