One of the city’s top up-and-coming lacrosse players thrived on the national stage in Port Coquitlam last week.

Ladner’s Jared Maznik, earned first team all-star honours as a pick-up player for the host Saints at the Founder’s Cup national junior “B” lacrosse championships.

The 18-year-old finished the tournament with 14 goals and nine assists as PoCo secured the bronze medal with 12-8 win on Saturday over First Nation League champion Onondaga Redhawks.

Maznik had a hat trick and two assists in the podium-clinching win after also scoring three goals in a tough 13-11 semi-final loss to the Akwesasne Thunder.

His biggest output of the championships was five goals and three assists in a 20-6 romp of Saskatchewan’s Queen City.

He still has three junior years of eligibility remaining.

He has now turned his attention to the field version of the sport where he will be playing for Team B.C. at the U19 First Nations Cup in Prince Edward Island. The Team B.C. roster also features Delta’s Elijah Gill, Zachary Milne and Johnathan Milne while Aiden Currivan is an alternate.

Maznik will then head to Ohio for his Grade 12 year at the Western Reserve Academy. He has already committed to Harvard University for next season.
