A contingent of players from Ladner has helped the North Delta Blue Jays Junior Premier baseball team get the 2012 season off to an impressive start.
The Blue Jays took all four games in their season opening series last weekend against the visiting Okanagan A's at Mackie Park.
After a productive 2011 campaign playing Bantam AAA together, a core group of local boys were successful in making the team.
Austin Ell, Mike Smith, Dayton Wilson, Malcolm Boehm, and Brock Morgan endured a series of tryouts last September that included Fall Ball, winter training at the Richmond Oval and strength/conditioning at Douglas College in New Westminster.
Along with the Senior Blue Jays, the Junior Jays compete in the wood bat only Premier Baseball League (PBL) which is the highest level of ball in B.C.
This year's team is comprised of players from Richmond, Surrey, Cloverdale, Vancouver and Delta. The league consists of 12 teams from the Okanagan, Vancouver Island and Lower Mainland.
Some notable PBL alumni include major leaguers Brett Lawrie, Jeff Francis and Justin Morneau.
The boys are looking forward to a busy season which will include in excess of 75 games from April to August.
