The Ladner Storm U10 development girls soccer team has already scored a major victory off the field that could benefit the entire community.

The girls were named BMO Team of the Week, a national recognition that automatically puts the locals as one of 15 finalists for a grand prize that includes a $125,000 donation by the BMO Financial Group towards field improvements.

The Storm are one of seven teams from across the country to be awarded so far. Eight more will be identified via an online application process. The 15 winners will then vie for the title of 2012 BMO Team of the Week champion, to be selected by the Canadian public.

Online voting will begin on August 13.

"Rain or shine, we play, and it's an honour to know that our dedication has been recognized," said Storm head coach Robb Semler. "In addition, the opportunity to win a prize for upgrades to our field is fantastic not only for this team, but also for the community.

"Our girls work so hard to excel at a sport they love, and at the same time, share their love of soccer by making the effort to mentor younger players; I couldn't ask for a better group of girls to coach."

The BMO Team of the Week program is a celebration at the grassroots level, engaging a nation and inspiring communities by recognizing youth soccer teams who demonstrate team pride, team spirit, community commitment and passion for the game.

"Team Storm has an unshakeable spirit that translates into an incredible team bond," said Jennifer Muench, District VicePresident, Vancouver. "I'm honoured to recognize the Ladner Storm, an inspiration to other youth soccer clubs and the first winner from British Columbia for the 2012 BMO Team of the Week program.

Congratulations to these girls and the community which supports them."
