Midget team rebounds from early loss to capture league championship banner

The South Delta #3 Midget hockey team overcame a tough season opening loss to win eight of its next nine games and capture the league championship.

The South Delta #3 Midget hockey team overcame a tough season opening loss to win eight of its next nine games and capture the league championship.

The locals outshot their Semiahmoo opponent 52-19 in their league opener but still came out on the short end of a 3-2 score. South Delta was able to rebound and soon found itself in a battle for top spot thanks to a 4-2 victory over another Semiahmoo team that had entered the contest without a loss.

With one game remaining, the players knew they had to come up with a a clutch performance to secure top place and they did just that in a convincing 9-3 victory over Cloverdale.

The team includes: Arjun Bains, Brycen Jacobi, Cameron Bower, Corey Friesen, Conner Jang, Riley Jang, David Cook, Derek Wheater, Matthew King, Matthew Purcell, Michael Thompson, Quin Lattimer, Reece Griffing, Stuart Graf, Thomas Buckley; and goalies Derrian Kinney and Garret Holmes.

The team was coached by Gary Kinney and Ken Thompson. The manager was Tammi Lim.
