SDMHA ready to throw another big Party

Ninth annual South Delta Minor House tournament will feature over 400 local players in action starting Thursday

The South Delta Minor Hockey Association will be getting the party started early this year.

The organization hosts the ninth edition of its ever-so-popular Party In Da House Tournament with action getting underway on Thursday at the Ladner Leisure Centre (LLC) and Tilbury Arena.

The event concludes next Sunday with the four championship games - Atom, Pee Wee, Bantam and Midget at the LLC.

What makes this event so unique is it features nothing but teams from the SDMHA's recreational divisions, with over 400 players participating. The all-South Delta flavour has resulted in tremendous support in the stands and from the business community.

There will be more than local bragging rights on the line this week as the four division winners will go on to represent SDMHA in the annual Delta Cup competition which is a one game playoff against the North Delta Minor Hockey Association champions.

SDMHA's rep teams will also be participating in high-profile tournaments this week.

The South Delta Midget A1 Storm will be at the 32nd annual Richmond International Tournament.

The locals begin action Thursday morning against the Port Moody Panthers.

Other round-robin games include the Alaska All-Stars U16AAA and California All-Stars on Friday and an all-local battle against the Delta Hockey Academy on Saturday.

This squad is coached by Shane Kuss and features a number of players who have come through the SDMHA rep program. The Richmond International concludes next Monday.

Meanwhile, the South Delta Bantam A1 Storm will be at the 50th annual Burnaby Minor Christmas Tournament.
