The South Delta Secondary Sun Devils senior boys rugby team is off to the provincials next week in Abbotsford.

SDSS picked up an impressive 29-7 win over Lord Tweedsmuir at home on May 16 to clinch a spot at the provincials and will now playoff against Elgin Park in South Surrey Thursday for the South Fraser senior boys Tier 1 championship.

The provincials will be held in Abbotsford May 29 to June 1.

The Sun Devils relentless effort and cohesive teamwork were evident right from the kickoff, setting the tone for their big win over Lord Tweedsmuir.

Many senior players played their last home game for the Sun Devils and went out in style. Considering a one-point loss to the same team last year in the semi-finals, this win was significant to the team and coaches.

The players exhibited exceptional grit, pushing through a hard-fought effort from the opposing team and capitalizing on opportunities.

There was extraordinary effort in both halves of play, and the team’s impressive defensive and offensive play was on full display right from the start.

From the hard work at practice, to the intense moments on the field, every member of the team showed a commitment to the plays that ultimately secured the well-deserved win for the Sun Devils.

Coaches Chris Dodd, Jack Stokes, Niko Condonopoulos and Randi Yamaoka are extremely proud of the team’s effort and the win.
