South Delta athletes take their talent to World Cheer stage in Orlando

Event was held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at the Disney World Resort with over 10,000 athletes competing

It was a thrill of a lifetime for a number athletes from Ladner and Tsawwassen who took their talent to the ultimate stage at the recent International Cheer Union (ICU) World Cheerleading Championships.

Held at Disney World Resort's ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, the event featured more than 10,500 athletes on 515 teams from around the globe competing in 26 divisions.

Ladner’s Jade Sloan, Aimee Barnard, Liv Atherton and Mikayla Sloan, along with Tsawwassen’s Ava Atherton and Meagan Macmillan earned their trips to Florida thanks to winning local “bid” competitions on their respective teams with Champion Cheerleading, based out of White Rock.

Aimee, Jade, Mikayla and Liv were members of team Obsession that competed in the International Open Coed Six Non-Tumble level. They finished 35th out of 65 teams and fifth among all Canadian entries.

Ava and Meagan were members of team Flawless. In the Open Coed Six level, Flawless was the top Canadian finisher and fifth overall.
