The South Fraser Basketball Academy has teamed up with Delta parks and rec to offer youth camps this summer.

Under the direction highly respected local high school coach Matt McKay, the South Fraser Academy was launched in response to the realities of today's competitive environment for youth players.

The academy develops the skills, understanding and work ethic needed to succeed in high school basketball and beyond.

The summer camps will be offered to two age groups in two phases.

Run and Fun Basketball is a program that will introduce children to the sport and focuses on building the basic skill base.

There are two dates scheduled - July 5-26 (four sessions) and Aug. 2-30 (five sessions. The sessions will run from 3: 30-4: 20 p.m. for 7-to-9-year-olds and 4: 30-5: 20 p.m. for 10-to-13-year-olds.The cost of the camps are $50 and $62 respectively.

The Academy program is for children ages 10-13 and is designed for players who have previous experience, looking to elevate their game. The weekly sessions will run from July 5-26 ( four sessions) and Aug. 2-30 (five sessions) from 5: 30-6: 20 p.m. The cost is $50 and $62.

All the camps will be run out of the new gym at the South Delta recreation centre.

With 15 years of experience, McKay has worked as both a head and assistant coach at all levels of boys high school basketball and as a head and assistant coach at the small college level, in addition to being both a head and assistant coach with the Basketball B.C. provincial team program.

He is also the Director of Coaching for South Delta Basketball.
