Strikers win Langley tourney

Overcoming extreme heat and a shortage of players, the Ladner U16 Strikers boys soccer team opened its season in outstanding fashion by winning gold at the Michael Smith Memorial Tournament in Langley on Labour Day Weekend.

Overcoming extreme heat and a shortage of players, the Ladner U16 Strikers boys soccer team opened its season in outstanding fashion by winning gold at the Michael Smith Memorial Tournament in Langley on Labour Day Weekend.

The local Silver level rep team got off to a rough start, dropping an 8-2 decision to a Gold side from Guildford.

The boys did not get discouraged and came out fighting hard against the Ladner U16 Gold team, later that day. Through two hard fought halves, the Strikers came away with a 3-2 upset win.

After dropping a tough 1-0 decision to Aldergrove, the boys had one more chance to show their stuff in a rematch against Guildford.

Ladner made the most of the second chance, dumping its Surrey opponent 4-1 to clinch the gold medal.

Coaches Paul King and Larry Robinson were encouraged by the hard work and determination of their players. They anticipate a very successful season.

The U16 roster includes Anthony Borland, Jeremy Cook, Cyrus Kohlmetz, Jayven Gill, David Copeland , Andrew Jones, Byron King, Adam Lariviere, Aidan Phagura, Dustin Poon, Bryson Rachel, Lewis Reid, Josh Robinson, Jake Rudnik and Pali Sarai. The coaches are excited by the recent addition of Adrian Blanco to the team.

The team also thanks U15 players Charlie Thompson and Anthony Cervi for filling in over the weekend.

The Strikers would also like to congratulate the Ladner U16 Celtic team for winning the silver medal.
