For the second straight year, a South Delta pitcher has been selected to participate in the Major League Baseball Sirius XM All-Star Futures Game.
Tsawwassen's Kyle Lotzkar will be suiting up for the International team when it takes on the United States on Sunday as part of the MLB All-Star Game festivities in Kansas City.
In his 13 games combined between High-A Bakersfield and Double-A Pensacola, the Cinncinati Reds right-handed prospect has accumulated a 6-2 record and 2.78 ERA (21 ER in 68.0 IP) this season. Since being promoted to Pensacola in early May, Lotzkar has a 3-2 mark and 3.02 ERA in eight games, seven of which were starts.
He follows Ladner's James Paxton who pitched in the 2011 Futures Game as a top prospect with the Seattle Mariners.
Lotzkar, who is currently in his sixth professional season, was a supplemental firstround selection of the Reds in 2007. The 22-year-old is currently the only Canada native on the World roster.
Prior to this season, Baseball America tabbed him as the No. 30 prospect in the Cincinnati Reds' system.
The game will be televised live on MLB. TV, ESPN2 and ESPN2 HD at 2 p.m. (PDT)
The World Team features players from 11 different countries and territories outside the 50 United States. The Dominican Republic is represented by eight players, followed by Venezuela (six), Cuba (two) and Puerto Rico (two).
Lotzkar was recently named Delta's Pro Athlete of the Year and was inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame as a member of the 2011 senior national team which won gold at the Pan American Games.
