Your editorial mentioned Delta council was in support of the motion to allow Coun. Scott Hamilton, new MLA for Delta North, an unpaid leave of absence until January 2014.
It is true the majority of council supported the motion. To be clear, where your editorial was not, I opposed the motion.
Delta deserves a full council to attend to the business of our munic ipality. While it is one thing to miss a meeting, as we all might, from time to time, it is quite another to know we will be functioning one councillor short for almost all of 2014.
Finally, it is somewhat hypocritical on the part of the premier to ask her councillors who are newly elected MLAs to avoid by-elections in order to save money, while she herself triggers one is search of a winnable seat.
