Hydro should display greater regard for trees

On 52nd Street there is a line of Acer red sunset tress that graces the second entrance to Tsawwassen. They are mature, beautiful trees on the east side of 52nd Street from Imperial Hill to Highway 17.

They are not close to any power lines because all the existing power lines are on the west side of the street.

Sadly, B.C. Hydro decided recently to remove one of these trees so it could install a pole that could be used as a support for a power pole on the opposite side of the street that needs some help.

There is no reason the existing pole could not be repaired or replaced in a less destructive fashion.

This cavalier destruction of one of these trees reflects a callous disregard for the appearance of our community.

I am not normally a tree hugger. I know there are times when B.C. Hydro has to protect our power supply with judicious control of trees and vegetation, but this type of insensitive action needs to be curtailed. This tree posed absolutely no danger to power lines.

My concern is that B.C. Hydro will now feel free to remove more of the trees for no good reason.
