Letters: South Delta loses another doctor

I can only guess how many members of our community have been suddenly left without a family physician.

Another long-standing doctor in Delta has retired.

Editor:

It was with great sadness and shock that we learned last week that Dr. David Hsia had to retire suddenly, due to health reasons.

Dr. Hsia has served our community for much longer than the 25 years that my family has been in Ladner.

He was a tremendous example of care and concern for all his patients.

It is very sad that he left before we could honour him and say goodbye to him the way he deserved.

I know that countless others will join my wife, sons and me wishing Dr. Hsia a speedy recovery and hope that he can enjoy a well-deserved retirement.

On a related note, this highlights in a very practical way the profound crisis of our healthcare system.

Unfortunately, there is no one to replace Dr. Hsia. I can only guess how many members of our community have been suddenly left without a family physician.

Many, like my wife and I have been left wondering where to turn for all the small, non-emergency, medical needs that go with growing old.

We have registered with the Health Connect Registry and hope that we will find a family doctor in our lifetime.
