What is going on at Delta Hospice? Founder Nancy Macey’s legacy is being trampled into the ground by a vindictive board of directors and a very insensitive acting executive director.

The issue of MAiD has introduced a new element into the running of the hospice which is at odds with the founder’s beliefs.

Instead of dealing with this divisive issue in a decent and constructive manner, the board decided to fire the founder. And this was done while Macey was on sick leave fighting her third bout of cancer.

To add insult to injury, the acting executive director sent out a scathing letter to all society members criticizing some people’s reactions to the treatment of the founder and slamming the past performance of the running of the society.

Finally, the annual general meeting at Harris Barn, which is the responsibility of the board and executive director to manage, was as poorly run as possible with extra ballots popping up to spoil the outcome.

The solution is simple. This board and current executive director have lost their moral authority to run the hospice for the community of Delta. They must go. This board and executive director must also fess up to the fact the founder has been poorly treated and is owed a huge apology by all.

Personally, I’m in favour of MAiD but I didn’t found the hospice so my opinion on this matter is irrelevant but Macey’s opinion is most relevant.

Furthermore, I urge all citizens of Delta to call Delta councillors and the mayor’s office to consider renaming Delta Hospice the Nancy Macey Hospice to honour her huge contribution to the citizens of Delta.
