The Delta Islanders will be looking for more success on Vancouver Island when they open their B.C. Junior “B” Tier 1 Lacrosse League semi-final series on Saturday afternoon.
The Islanders head to the provincial capital to take on the Victoria Shamrocks in game one of a best-of-three series. The teams then come to the Ladner Leisure Centre on Sunday (4 p.m.) for game two.
Victoria (13-4-1) has home floor advantage thanks to finish just one point ahead of Delta (13-5-0) in a match-up of the league’s second and third place teams.
The Islanders advanced to the final four by rallying past the Nanaimo Timbermen with a pair of weekend wins, including 10-9 game three triumph last Sunday in Ladner. The Shamrocks also needed three games to get past Langley.
The other semi-final match-up has Coquitlam taking on Richmond. The Adanacs will be representing B.C. at the Founder’s Cup national junior “B: lacrosse championships in Winnipeg next month thanks to their first place finish in regular season play.
That decision was made by the league’s board of governors.
The championships are not a Canadian Lacrosse Association sanctioned event and participating teams receive no funding. Basing the representative on league play provides more time for planning and fundraising.
