Minister's Minute: Craving and wanting more

It was so unique for us to be sitting down and sharing a meal that we could both enjoy

A man reading the Holy Bible.

1 Peter 2:2–3 (NIV): “Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.”

Ruth and I had our nephew over for lunch on Monday. We had roast beef, roasted potatoes and carrots and a luscious salad.

Ruth has numerous food sensitivities (a friend of ours calls them gentle particularities) so we also made gravy with gluten free flour so she could fully participate in the meal.

This was sort of a big deal for us. Because of Ruth’s allergies we often don’t eat the same thing. It was so unique for us to be sitting down and sharing a meal that we could both enjoy. We couldn’t stop saying, “This is sooo good!”

It made us want to put the effort into doing more meals that we can both enjoy together. We craved more.

The “pure spiritual milk” that Peter refers to in the verse above is the goodness of God. He says that once you have had a taste of God’s goodness it will leave you craving more of Him just like a newborn baby tasting its mother’s milk for the first time and then longing for more.

God is good! Sometimes we don’t see His goodness because we are distracted by________. Fill in the blank. It may take putting in the effort of sitting down with Him and asking Him to reveal Himself to you. I promise you it will leave you craving more.

Psalm 34:8 (NIV): “Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.”
