Cadets earn their wings

Hurricane Squadron members become new pilots

Last Friday proved to be a noteworthy and memorable day as four young Air Cadets from South Delta's 828 Hurricane Squadron received their power and glider "wings" and simultaneously became the newest and youngest pilots in South Delta.

The proud young pilots ranging in age from 16 to 18 were formally presented their "wings" on parade in front of many dignitaries at Canadian Forces Base Comox on Vancouver Island.

All four cadets went through a rigorous selection process before being awarded their flying and glider scholarships and gladly gave up their summer vacation to take part in the demanding six weeks of training.

As part of Canada's largest youth program the squadron offers exciting opportunities for youth ages 12 to 19.

The 828 Hurricane Squadron will hold registration nights on Tuesday, Sept. 6 and 13 starting at 7 p.m. at the South Delta Recreation Centre at 172056th St., Tsawwassen. For more information visit www.cadets.ca/lhq/828air/ or e-mail aircadets828@ hotmail.com.
