Centennial Beach Café to remain open year-round

He says it's been an amazing summer and now hopes some of that success will rub off during the colder days of fall and winter.

Restaurateur Paul Roberts began operating Centennial Beach Café this summer at the new concession-washroom building in what was a very busy Centennial Beach in Tsawwassen.

The café has indoor seating for 16 and outdoor seating for 40.

Costing over $2 million, the long awaited facility built by Metro Vancouver replaced the dilapidated concession building, which stood for many years at another spot at the beach.

After going through a few opening bumps, including a septic pump failing, computer issues, refrigeration system problems and having to train an entirely new staff during the busiest time of year, the café proved to be a big hit.

"It's been really amazing, fantastic," said Roberts, a Tsawwassen resident.

He said the sunnier and warmer than normal weather right up until recently certainly helped his business.

Roberts has been advertising the eatery as "food with a view" and hopes to carry on that appeal during the cooler months, making the café a year-round venue.

"It was an option I wanted to try, rather than closing for the season, and yes, I'd love to get the word out we're open," Roberts said.

He admits the beach isn't as busy now, however, people should be aware that it's open throughout the year and is still a beautiful place to visit.

"It's an absolutely stunning location and we do have an indoor seating area. So you can come watch the waves or kiteboarders on a windy day. It's a unique spot in the area and Lower Mainland," he said.

He's hoping everyone from birders to kiteboard-ers will like having a venue where they can hang out.

"The beach is still a great place and there is lots to do. There's a playground here and trails and ample parking."

The café's winter hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information visit centennialbeachcafe.com.
