Editor’s note: In cooperation with Delta Police, the Crime Beat feature has changed its format. Delta Police will be outlining their calls for service in the community as well, highlighting an issue or issues of concern for residents, along with tips for the public when appropriate to the highlighted topic. This week, DPD is putting the spotlight on ‘No call too small.’

Here is your DPD snapshot for the week of April 4 to 10, 2022:

  • Number of completed calls: 550
  • Number of General Occurrence Reports created: 458
  • False/abandoned 911 calls: 67
  • Assist the public: 52
  • Fraud: 10
  • Collisions: 9
  • Break & Enter: 3

On April 10 in the 1200 block of 56th Street, officers were called on three occasions, at approximately 9:15 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 5:45 p.m. regarding two men who were sleeping in the vestibule of local banks. In each incident, the men were cooperative with police and agreed to move on. The final “assist the public” call resulted in the officer driving one of the men to a local bus station as they were not familiar with Tsawwassen, the transit system, and didn't know how to get back to Vancouver.

Immediate Roadside Prohibitions

Last week DPD officers removed six impaired drivers from our roads. Each of these drivers were served 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibitions (IRP) after blowing a fail into the breathalyzer.

One of these IRP's was served to a driver who had their 'n' licence, the 'n' was not displayed on their vehicle, had three people in the vehicle with them and blew a ‘fail.’

If you suspect someone is driving while impaired, please call 9-1-1. If you have consumed drugs or alcohol, plan ahead for how you are going to get home, or from point a-to-b.
