Delta throwback: Surrey Co-Op bigger and better than ever

A bigger selection of merchandise was made available at the store

Let’s go back to April 1974 when hundreds of Delta shoppers dropped in at the Ladner branch of the Surrey Co-Op Association after the store reopened following an extensive renovation.

Located at the corner of Bridge and Elliott streets, now site the site of the Dunbar Lumber complex that is to be redeveloped, the store underwent a complete refit, making it bigger and capable of carrying more stock.

Association president Ralph Barichello said the $24 million worth of sales the previous year was expected to reach $30 million.

He said the association was “sprucing up” the store to link with new future development in Ladner Village.
