Delta throwback: The Kiwanis Club

The club had a long history of community service

South Deltans could always count on the Kiwanis Club to serve up pancakes to kick off a day at Ladner May Days or the Tsawwassen Sun Festival. Kiwanis members were also always there to undertake a project, support an endeavour or lend financial assistance to a worthy cause.

Here's a throwback for you from the June 1974 pages of the Optimist.

This photo shows a group of students from Pebble Hill Elementary on a walkathon for the Kiwanis Club, which was raising money for a pre-school for mentally-challenged kids.

In 2015, after more than 50 years of service, the Kiwanis Club of Tsawwassen-Ladner announced it was disbanding due to insufficient membership, despite repeated attempts to bolster its ranks.
