Two different groups will make their Ladner Village Market debuts on Sunday.

Children's band GoGo Bonkers is scheduled to perform in the morning while Latin jazz and salsa band Rumba Calzada takes to the stage in the afternoon.

"We've never had a band specifically geared towards children, which I thought might be interesting," says the market's Bill McKnight.

Market-goers are enjoying new acts this season, he notes.

"We've had quite a bit of new entertainment this year and we've had a very nice response to it," he says. "We had our first salsa/rumba type band last market and people were dancing in the streets. They really liked them."

Rumba Calzada will get its chance to get people dancing on Sunday.

Headed by percussionist, composer, and instructor Raphael Geronimo, the band "has been a favourite with Vancouver's Latin jazz and salsa enthusiasts for over 15 years," the group's website states.

The Juno-nominated band was originally formed in 1991 by Geronimo's father Boying.

Geronimo has studied in Cuba at the Laboratorio Internacional de Folklore en la Habana and in New York City at the Harbour Center of Performing Arts.

GoGo Bonkers' "interactive and energetic performances are based on the themes of environmental sustainability," the group's website states. Shows are a "wild musical ride" with characters including ogres, fairies, ravens bears and trees.

"GoGo Bonkers believes that environmental sustainability is an achievable and integral component to all of our communities," according to the site.

The group has performed at events like the Vancouver Children's Festival, and Calgary Children's Festival.

GoGo Bonkers performs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Rumba Calzada plays from 1 to 4 p.m.

. The final market of the 15th season is scheduled for Sept. 11. Mojo Zydeco will be performing from 1 to 4 p.m.

The market, which features a range of vendors and is billed as the largest open-air market in Western Canada, goes from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It runs along 48th Avenue, from Elliott to Delta streets.
