North Delta Crime Beat: Police looking for stolen company truck valued at $100,000

The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. *Dec. 27, Public Safety Building 11375 84th Avenue: Complainant reported their personal information had been hacked and a TD Visa created in their name. The address and phone number of the complainant had been changed on the Visa and $9,700 fraudulently charged. The bank has commenced an investigation and a police file has been provided. Police advised the complainant to utilize the Canadian Anti-fraud Centre and Equifax for further protection and resources.

*Dec. 28, 6900 Block of 120th Street: Police observed a person leave a liquor store and travel in their vehicle at 60 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. A traffic stop initiated by police and a distinct odour of liquor was found emanating from the vehicle. The driver provided two breath samples with both reading “fail.” The driver was given a 90-day immediate roadside suspension and a 30-day driving suspension. The vehicle was towed and impounded.

*Dec. 29, 7900 Block of Wiltshire Blvd: Complainant reported their unlocked truck had been entered sometime overnight and their wallet, snow mobile equipment, and tools valued at approximately $1,000 were stolen. The wallet and ID were later recovered and returned. The complainant’s bank card had been used to make purchases of $100 and has been cancelled. Police reminded the complainant to keep vehicle doors locked, not to leave valuables in the vehicle, and encouraged them to invest in security features.

*Dec. 29, 8800 Block of Delmonte Crescent: Complainant reported the catalytic converter had been stolen from their vehicle. The converter appeared to have be sawed off due to the markings under the vehicle. Damage to the vehicle of approximately $1,500. A canvas of the area for surveillance video proved negative.

*Dec. 29, Public Safety Building 11375 84th Avenue: Complainant reported a postal scam where they were asked to e-transfer $350 out of their bank account. Even though the complainant was suspicious they provided their SIN number and driver’s license information and transferred the funds as requested. The complainant continuing to be skeptical decided to contact the bank who were able to halt the transfer. Police advised the complainant to register with Equifax and Service Canada.

*Dec. 29, 11400 Block of 79A Avenue: Complainant reported the catalytic converter, two sensors, and piping stolen from their vehicle parked outside their residence. Approximate value of items stolen $1,000. A file number provided for insurance purposes.

*Jan. 1, 116th Street and 75th Avenue: Police stopped a vehicle, which backed out of a driveway abruptly without lights and proceeded to make a right hand turn on a red light contrary to the posted sign. The driver had slurred speech and admitted to consuming alcohol. Sobriety test was administered and as a result, a 24-hour driving prohibition was issued and the vehicle impounded. The driver was transported to the sky train station as requested. 

*Jan. 1, 600 Block of Chester Road: A business reported the theft of a company truck from their business lot. Examination of surveillance video shows two males milling about the vehicle, but point of entry was not visible. It is believed the suspects broke a window as there was glass on the ground. The video reveals the truck hitting another parked commercial vehicle as they drove away. The value of the stolen vehicle is $100,000. The incident is still under investigation for further surveillance video and dash cam footage.
