North Delta Crime Beat: Two-vehicle collision results in minor injuries, $25,000 in damage

The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. *Jan. 11, 7100 block of Scott Road: A call was donwstreamed from BC Ambulance Service to DPD related to a collision. A Ford Fiesta pulled out of the mall parking lot to turn left, northbound onto Scott Road and was struck by a southbound BMW sedan. Total damage was estimated at $25,000. Injuries were minor, consisting of soft tissue injuries only. No signs of impairment. Cause of the collision was driver error.

*Jan. 10, 6300 Block of Alderwood Lane: Complainant reported that, sometime overnight, their locked van had the passenger-side window smashed and the vehicle entered. Several items stolen, including a cellphone, gas cards, and a hat with a total value of $1,000. Complainant advised that all gas cards were cancelled without any transactions having occurred and that the cellphone was shut off on all call attempts. The “Find my Friends” app not activated on the phone. The area was canvased for surveillance video but was negative.

*Jan. 13, NDSB 11375 84th Avenue: Complainant reported their personal and business accounts had been defrauded for more than $7,000. An email, received by the complainant, pretending to be Paypal requested personal information, which the complainant provided.  The complainant then began noticing withdrawals and charges to their various accounts.  All agencies contacted regarding the fraud and are conducting their own investigations.  The complainant has put a safety plan in place and informed Equifax, TransUnion, and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre. Fraud reported to police as required by banking institutes.

*Jan. 13, 7000 Block of 120th Street: A business reported that a male had entered the store and taken two bottles of brandy and fled without payment. The male is described as South Asian, 50 years of age, heavy build, wearing a blue puffer jacket and a black baseball hat. Police attended and patrolled the area, which proved negative. The business advised that the suspect is a repeat offender. Surveillance video of the incident provided and still photos of the suspect disseminated for possible identification.

*Jan. 13, 8400 Block of 116A Street: Complainant reported their vehicle had been broken into sometime over the past several days while parked in front of their residence. Items stolen include a pair of Keens work boots, a socket set, and screw drivers. The catalytic converter heat shield had also been removed and stolen. Nothing suitable for identification services, as the complainant had cleaned the vehicle. 

*Jan. 13, 7200 Block of Highway 17: Police stopped a vehicle indicated by radar to be travelling at 144 km/h in an 80 km/h zone. The driver was charged with driving at an excessive speed and not displaying an “N” sign. The vehicle was impounded and the driver left the area with an arranged ride.
