Delta police have issued a few safety reminders for Halloween.
"Given the excitement of young children during this time of year, here are a few tips to ensure that everyone has a safe and fun night," said department spokesperson Const. Ciaran Feenan.
. Plan your route ahead of time.
. Trick or treat in familiar neighbourhoods.
. Carry a flashlight with fresh batteries.
. Stay on the sidewalks and off the streets.
. Cross only at intersections and designated crosswalks.
. Follow traffic signals and don't jaywalk.
. Apply reflective tape to Halloween costumes.
Police are also reminding the public that fireworks are prohibited without a valid permit. A permit costs $200 and must be obtained from the fire department at least 10 days prior to any event.
Firework violation fines range from $175 to $225.
"Delta police anticipate that they will be busy throughout the night with more calls for service, but we ask everyone to please ensure that they celebrate in a safe and responsible manner and take an extra second while driving to watch out for trick or treaters," Feenan said.
