Mayor Lois Jackson, Delta council and the Heritage Advisory Commission announced that Allyson Wollin of South Delta Secondary is the recipient of the 2011 Heritage Commission Scholarship.

Wollin's recipe book, Flavours of the Earth, focuses on revitalizing urban farming and living sustainably through local agriculture. She notes that sustainable agriculture has played a fundamental role in Delta's history.

Tyler Pentland of Delta Secondary received an honourable mention for his photo collage.

The scholarship is awarded annually to a graduating student in an effort to encourage students who display an interest in local or regional heritage through the development of an original piece of work.

This $750 scholarship is applied to the recipient's post-secondary studies.

Jackson presented the award to Wollin at Monday's council meeting.
