Jan. 1, 56th Street & 12th Avenue: Police observed a vehicle travelling at 75 km/h in a marked 50 km/h zone and swerving in its lane. A traffic stop was initiated, and the driver admitted to having consumed alcohol earlier. Two breath samples provided by the driver, both reading fail. Consequently, the driver was given a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and a 30-day vehicle impoundment. The vehicle was towed from the scene and the driver walked home.

Jan. 1, 5000 Block of Canoe Pass Way: Police were called to a report of a theft in progress. The suspect had cut through a security cord and stole three Helly Hansen winter jackets with a total value of $1,100. The suspect fled the area in a vehicle. The license number was provided to the police, who attended the residence of the suspect, who then relinquished the stolen jackets. The business did not wish to proceed criminally. Mall security issued a one-year civil ban to the suspect, and the jackets were returned to the business.

Jan. 1, 4900 Block of Weaver Drive: The complainant reported the gate to their residence, adjacent to a pathway sustained approximately $100 in damage by youths who were hanging out in the area. The complainant indicated this was a common occurrence. Police advised the complainant to install a motion sensor light on the outside of the gate to prevent future damage.

Jan. 3, 4900 Block of Canoe Pass Way: A business reported a break and enter to a storage container. A male suspect was observed closing the door of the container and getting into a vehicle. The license number of the vehicle was provided to police. Police located the vehicle, and a search yielded stolen items valued at $578, and the container lock. The suspect was arrested and released on an undertaking to appear in court on a future date.

Jan. 3, 100 Block of 67A Street: A report was received of a theft of several pairs of driving glasses from two unlocked vehicles with an estimated value of $350.

Jan. 4, Police headquarters, 4455 Clarence Taylor Crescent: Complainant reported they purchased a MacBook Air from Apple.com and had received notification that the item had been delivered. At the time of delivery, the complainant was at work and no one else was at the residence at that time. The complainant’s credit card indicated a charge of $2,000. The credit card company has been contacted to dispute the charges. Police canvassed the area for surveillance video with negative results.

Jan. 4, Police headquarters, 4455 Clarence Taylor Crescent:  Complainant reported the IPhone, which they purchased from a phone company, was not delivered to their current address in North Saanich, but to a previous address in Delta. The company had been given specific information as to the change of address. The residence in Delta is not occupied, but according to the phone company, a person at the residence signed for the iPhone. A canvass of the area for surveillance video proved negative. The complainant advised they would contact the phone company and the delivery service with the police file number for a follow-up. Estimated loss of $1,000.

Jan. 5, 57B Street & Deltaport Way: A query of a license plate of a vehicle idling on the side of the road indicated inactive insurance. When police approached the vehicle, the driver left the scene. Police initiated a traffic stop and it was determined the driver had consumed alcohol. Two breath samples provided both read fail. As a result, the driver was given a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition, a 30-day vehicle impoundment, and a ticket for driving without insurance. The vehicle was towed from the scene, and the driver was picked up by a family member.

Jan. 5, 45th Avenue and 54A Street: A report was received of a vehicle where the driver was possibly impaired. The vehicle was located, and the driver admitted to consuming alcohol earlier. Two breath samples provided by the driver both read fail. As a result, the driver was given a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition, and a 30-day vehicle impoundment. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

Jan. 6, Police headquarters, 4455 Clarence Taylor Crescent: Complainant reported while they were in Facebook on their laptop, it froze, and a pop up appeared indicating the complainant should phone a specific number and talk with Microsoft for technical assistance. The complainant spoke with a person who said they were USA Repair Service and gave them remote access to their computer. The complainant then sent $300 via their credit card for repair of the laptop and purchased three years of future technical support.  At this point the complainant realized they were the victim of fraud and cancelled their credit card. Police advised the complainant to report the fraud to Equifax, TransUnion, and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
