Delta police officers had run-ins with suspects in two separate incidents over the weekend.

At about 7 a.m. Friday, officers were called to the 400-block of Seashell Drive in Tsawwassen after calls about a theft in progress. Upon arrival at the scene, officers identified the suspect vehicle and attempted to stop the suspects, who were driving a vehicle stolen in Surrey and caught rummaging through a car in the Boundary Bay area neighbourhood.

Police spokesperson A/Sgt. Paul Eisenzimmer said there were two males in the car. The pair attempted to flee from officers and deliberately rammed into one of the two police cars that responded to the call.

"Plain clothes officers in the area observed the fleeing vehicle and, with assistance of other plain clothes officers attending to the area, conducted covert surveillance on suspects into Surrey."

With the help of Surrey RCMP officers, two young offenders were arrested as they pulled into a private driveway.

The two suspects, aged 15 and 17 of Surrey, were held and charged with theft, possession of stolen property, assault with a weapon and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

Early Saturday morning, an officer on patrol in North Delta attempted to stop a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in the 11200-block of 72nd Avenue.

The vehicle was seen heading straight for a residence in the 7200-block of 115th Street where the driver, a 25-year-old man, came to a stop, exited the car and tried to run into the house.

The officer intercepted the man and attempted to place him under arrest. The man resisted and a fight ensued.

The officer was able to subdue the suspect, who was subsequently charged with assaulting a police officer, obstructing a police officer and issued a seven-day driving prohibition for excessive speeding.
