The Delta Ice Hawks celebrate one of their eight goals scored at Tuesday night's 8-1 home win over Abbotsford.

The Delta Ice Hawks improved their record to 5-0 on home ice with a convincing 8-1 win over the Abbotsford Pilots at the Ladner Leisure Centre (LLC) Tuesday night.

Delta scored four in the first and two more in the second for a 6-0 lead before Abbotsford got on the board late in the middle period.

It was a night of firsts as Payton Hu, Aiden McGregor-Bennett and Beckett Cross all scored their first goals of the season, while Conner Merriman added a pair with singles going to Mateo Sjoberg, Danylo Bereza and Colin Jang.

Zach Shaughnessy was his usual steady self between the pipes stopping 24 of 25 shots in the win.

The Ice Hawks outshot the Pilots 47-25.

Delta dropped a 2-1 shoot-out decision to the White Rock Whalers on the road on Oct. 7.

Micheal Romeo scored the lone goal.

With these results, the Ice Hawks sit tied with the Richmond Sockeyes atop the Tom Shaw Conference standings with 21 points (10-1-0-1).

Both teams are 10 points clear of Port Moody, Grandview and White Rock who all have 10 points.

Delta starts a home-and-home series with the Whalers starting Saturday night in White Rock before the two teams square off at the LLC on Tuesday night, Oct. 17 at 7:35 p.m.
