Discovery in the Arctic hits close to home for another Tsawwassenite

I have used marathon events to get glimpses of different parts of the world and that included running a marathon from Artic Bay to Nanisivik on the top of Baffin Island.

I took part of a sightseeing tour of the Arctic. Not only did we see beluga whales and polar bears below us, the pilots of the two twin-otter planes landed on the beach of "Beeche Island," only metres away from the graves of some of the men that were buried there as part of the Franklin Expedition.

Learning that one of the ships used in the expedition has been found has, needless to say, a special meaning for me.
