After tuning into CKNW recently, I could not help myself from chuckling.
I thought Linda Steel was a bit coy with Transportation Minister Rob Fleming when she asked for a status update on the new tunnel. “Will it be built within 10 years” Linda joked? “Definitely within 10 years” the Minister quipped. I almost slammed on my brakes!
What immediately went through my mind was what the cost overruns associated with a 10-year build.
With the Site C Dam ballooning from $12 billion to $16 billion who knows what the final cost will be for this permanently studied megaproject?
Maybe with the recent ‘work from home’ movement in place, the NDP will quietly bury the tunnel expansion in an insurmountable amount of red tape so that it will never be built and thus saving taxpayers billions of dollars.
