The 4-H is a long-running youth program that builds awareness of agriculture

At the heart of the Agriculture Barns at the PNE continues to be the 4-H Festival.

Let’s head back to the Aug. 31, 1961 edition of The Optimist where a “Feeding Time” story ran on the front page, featuring Debbie Savage.

The Ladner resident was at the Pacific National Exhibition pictured helping her pet calf “Muffet”. Both were members of the Delta 4-H Jersey Calf Club.

They were competing in the largest 4-H Club contest in the PNE’s history.

The winners of the Jersey Farm Shield at the competition that year were Hugh Savage, Debbie Savage, Danny Kirkland, Margaret Savage, Diana Warden, Douglas Featherstone and John Nottingham, all members of the Ladner-based club.
