The number of active cases of COVID-19 in Delta went down from the previous week.

That’s according to the B.C. Centre for Disease Control which today (Dec. 17) provided weekly numbers from Dec. 6 to 12.

The latest numbers have Delta at 138 cases, while Richmond is at 119 and Surrey is at 1,484 cases.

The BCCDC last week began releasing more detailed data on the spread of coronavirus.

The data is now reported by local health area on a weekly basis, numbers that were previously only reported monthly.

The first map showing active cases, for the week of Nov. 29 to Dec. 5, indicated Delta had 208 confirmed cases, while neighbouring Richmond had 134 and Surrey had 1,588.

The Delta data, however, still doesn’t break down numbers by the communities of Ladner, Tsawwassen and North Delta.

According to the latest monthly map which shows cumulative cases, from January to November, Delta had 1,331 cases, exceeding Richmond which had 944 cases but nowhere near Surrey which had 10,479 cases.

The provincial government this week said it is expanding provincial COVID-19 ticket enforcement.

Mike Farnworth, Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General, announced he has asked gaming investigators, conservation officers, community safety unit inspectors, and liquor and cannabis inspectors to actively support police and increase COVID-19 enforcement during their normal course of duties or when in public places.
