Editor: I have been a resident of Tsawwassen for 20 years and have no connections with the Century Group. However, I have attended many of the meetings concerning the development of the Southlands, hosted both by Century and the Corporation of Delta.

Editor: I think a letter may be the easiest way to tell an unusual tale of community commitment. Last week I received a call from Westshore Terminals, which was following up on the letters that have complained about the "black stuff.

Those big regional entities are doing their best to turn Delta into just another suburb one parking meter at a time. Yes, we're part of the largest metropolitan area west of Toronto, but we retain, particularly in South Delta, that small town feel.

Editor: Re: Language barrier a concern, Nov. 7 The mayor noted in the article that when she went to the city of Mangalore in India that 85 per cent spoke English and it was mandatory in school.

Editor: The "word" from around the water fountain at municipal hall is that the Southlands development is a "done deal" or a "fait accompli.

Editor: Re: Do not look Southlands gift horse in the mouth, letter to the editor, Nov. 7 This old saying apparently stems from the fact one can tell a horse's age and general condition by checking his teeth for wear.

There's an old adage in journalism: show, don't tell. It's an extremely effective writing technique that allows readers to feel, see and experience a story.

After Monday night's Delta council meeting, it looks like Ladner's waterfront is still searching for that long-awaited catalyst.
