Editor, My family, the Greens, moved to Ladner on the advice of the pioneering Ladners in the 1860s. Their farm is still thriving, partly because of the ALR and partly because of our growing appreciation of reliable, local food sources.

Mike Pearson saw the sign early. He knew his young son Trevor, then just three-years-old, was athletic. What he didn't yet know was his strength and determination.

Do we simply expect too much? I've been pondering that question a lot lately as it seems every time I turn around there's another news report about how some country is on the brink or how the economy has suffered another setback.

Editor: In 2012, London will host Canada's Olympic qualifying women's soccer team. What a great triumph for these women and for women's soccer as a whole.

Editor: I am outgoing president of the Tsawwassen Rotary Club. For fun I kept saying to our club that we were the best club on the planet. When you read on, you can not help but feel the same way I do.

Editor: A special thanks to a young man who helped our guest who was visit from Holland. On Thursday afternoon (June 14) on 55th Street in Tsawwassen, he saw an elderly man fall and injure himself.

Summer is finally here. I've been looking forward to this day ever since I received my property assessment in January. The end of June also signals the end of the school year for the kids as well.

Editor: As we are celebrating Canada's 145th birthday, replete with a veritable love-in of flag-waving self-congratulatory fervour, one cannot escape the uncomfortable notion that it is a slippery slope from patriotism to jingoism.

Editor: The Ladner Bandfest was the best ever! We would like to thank the Optimist and all of our sponsors for helping this to become the largest gathering of adult musicians in all of Canada.

Editor: Some people in this community can find nothing good to say about possible development on the Southlands. From my point of view, the benefits far outweigh any negatives.
