I sort of like the simplistic idea of independent politics but my practical side keeps reminding me they just don't work. I still don't understand how neighbouring independents would grapple with inter-constituency programs.

Editor: Re: MLA overstates dredging role, letter to the editor, April 24 Vicki Huntington predicted in a column published in this paper on Nov. 21, 2012 that people would try to write her out of the story on the funding for dredging Ladner Harbour.

Editor: I attended a Delta South all-candidates forum put on by the Probus Club in Tsawwassen last week. It was clear from the outset that NDP candidate Nic Slater was outmatched by the other two candidates.

Editor: Re: Local campaigns against hate, April 17 As a long-time trawler of Craigslist, I was surprised to hear that it contained a rants and raves section containing hate, racism and other psychologically damaging material.

Editor: Re: Gov't MLA doesn't necessarily pay dividends for constituents, Community Comment, April 19 Steve Graham provides an accurate look at what effect an individual MLA can have on government decisions.

Editor: I would like to let the citizens of Tsawwassen know that our annual motorcycle show is coming to town on Sunday, April 28. This year marks our 28th year; 27 shows have been held at the South Delta Recreation Centre.

Editor: Re: Fines rise as Delta aims to curb illegal dumping, April 12 Kudos to Coun. Scott Hamilton for his idea regarding exposing the illegal dumpers on farm roads, etc.

Editor: As organizer for Lift Every Voice, I would like to thank the Optimist for the story, photo and the community announcements. The event was a resounding success.

Editor: One of the key issues in the upcoming provincial election campaign is how effective an independent MLA can be within our current party system of B.C. politics.

We are deep into the provincial election campaign now, also known as "promise time." This is when we hear about all sorts of wonderful things that may or may not happen once the election is over.
