Editor: It is true that neighbourhoods should be respected. This is what we all want and need as Delta residents.

"Rain, rain, go away, come again another day!" That's what I'm singing these days, how about you? However, I know that this is not a very practical song to sing, especially since we do live in a rain forest region of the globe.

Editor: I have been following the highly contentious Southlands public hearing in the Optimist. I am not opposed to developing the Southlands property, however, I do question Century Group's development in terms of its location.

Last week's Southlands public hearing reinforced much of what we already knew about the issue, including the fact that regardless of who purports to speak on their behalf, the silent majority continues to be, well, silent.

When fall arrives and the heavy moist air and cooler temperatures bring out the colour on the trees, I can't help but reflect on the second Saturday in October. That date traditionally has been the opening day of the hunting season in Delta.

Editor: I did not realize until I read the article about Southlands public hearing last week that the approval or disapproval of the proposal was coming down to a count of the number of people that spoke either for or against.

Editor: It was an interesting night at the Southlands public hearing. As housing developments go, the Century Group proposal may be one of the most generous and well crafted to be put forward by any developer in this province.
