For many of us, this is a time we slow down, get away, lie in the sun, swim at a beach, or perhaps meet up with relatives at family reunions. For me, it's a pleasant time where we escape to the Gulf Islands to our little spot of paradise.

So ... will a new bridge replace the George Massey Tunnel? Our mayor says without it commuter traffic will be "devastating." Wonder if anybody listens? Those who decide these things likely consider the region's needs, not just ours.

Editor: The controversy surrounding the proposed development of Southlands is fascinating but I sometimes wonder if it is more a case of NIMBYitis Syndrome as in "not in my backyard" than genuine concern for our farmlands.
